THE SHOMAKER'S HOUSE

"The Shoemaker's House" is going to be the first and only multimedia exhibition for the systematic recording of the history of footwear in Greece, with main reference to the settlement of Ossa. The proposed project is to be implemented in an existing traditional Ossa residential building, which has been donated to the association. The building will host an exhibition hall on the history of tannery and footwear in the settlement of Ossa, an economic activity for which the settlement maintained the lead, both in the quantity of products produced and in the quality throughout the period from early 18th century and up to the post-World War II era. In addition, a relevant digital application will be created in the site, through which the visitor will be able to browse the sites of tanneries, well-known shoe-making laboratories of the settlement as well as the reconstruction -with oral history (interviews of the last shoemakers of Ossa) - shoe manufacturing and marketing process.

The project, in addition to its value in terms of saving the economic - cultural activity of the shoemakers of the settlement of Ossa, thus increasing the critical mass of cultural resources of the settlement (Folklore Collection, Traditional Grocery, Old Tsagaradiko, etc.), also offers in rescuing a traditional building, which will otherwise collapse and disappear. The total budget of the project amounts to 299,000 euros and is expected to be completed in 2 years!
