CULTURAL ASSOCIATION OF OSSA "AGIA KYRANNA

The Cultural Association of Ossa Citizens "Agia Kyranna" was founded in 1965, nd it has been contributing to the social and cultural development of the village and its inhabitants. After a period of inactivity in the 1990s, in April 1999, the Association was reactivated.

Thus, in recent years the association has been active in many fields, while undertaking significant actions, such as the operation of locker rooms in Ossa and Thessaloniki, the creation of a Blood Bank, the publication of a newspaper, events for women and children, trips in Greece and abroad, seminars on local history, folklore and agritourism, function of dance classes, choir, theater group and library, revival of habits of traditional society (tobacco collection, traditional harvest, etc.), an annual Flower Show in late April-early May, which operates for 3 days with voluntary work of our members, organizing events with the dominant ones of "Cultural June" and "Cherry Festival" (in 2019 we celebrated the 21st Cherry Festival). The aim is to highlight the customs and traditions of the region, with particular reference to the production of high quality cherries. In this context, we mention the hosting and presentation of important music and dance groups from Greece and abroad (in 2019 we hosted a dance club from France), performances of theatrical groups of the region, cinema nights for children and adults, exhibitions, tastings of local wines and spirits. The choice of bands, sound coverage and lighting, production of printed material, etc. is always taken care of, in order to meet the elements of excellent quality, for the best possible result.

An important action of the association is the cooperation with other associations and the Municipality of Nilufer in Bursa, where descendants of exchanged people of 1924 live, whose ancestors were born in Ossa and in recent years we have developed channels of cooperation, exchanges and various missions, strengthening and maintaining it. the way good relations between the two peoples, mutual recognition and cross-border cooperation.

Furthermore, it is important to mention the charity action the association has undertaken, such as the handmade knitwear, made by the ladies of the association, who donated their knitted hats, scarves, etc. during the winter months and then offer them to economically vulnerable groups in the wider area, to children, orphanages, social services, etc. With this action, in addition to the offered items, the ladies of the club had the opportunity to socialize with each other, discuss and spend their afternoons happily and constructively during the difficult winter season.

On the other hand, a series of interventions were made regarding the creation of the Ossa's Folklore Museum and support of the proposal for the "Agricultural Life Museum of the Municipality of Vertiskos", actions for the protection and promotion of the traditional settlement, religious and architectural monuments of Ossa, creating a page on internet, collaboration with AUTh. and PA.MAK., the Ephorates of Antiquities, the N.E.L.E., the Development Company of N. Thessaloniki, the L.E.M.M.-TH. and other organizations and associations.

The association's proposal for the "Agricultural Life Museum" was adopted in 2003 by the former Municipality of Vertiskou, which with the support of the Ephorate of Modern Monuments and the Hellenic Society for the Protection of the Environment and Cultural Heritage (Thessaloniki Branch), submitted in a European funding program. Unfortunately, the proposal was funded in parts and implemented by 1/5, with the restoration of a building and the creation of a small folklore exhibition in a neighboring settlement.

In 2016, with persistent, specific and coordinated actions of the association, the initial proposal of the Economist, evolved into a series of actions, interventions and projects in the settlement of Ossa. In the context of an action plan entitled "Open Air Museum of Rural Life of Ossa", the association has proceeded to the creation of three visitable cultural sites in the traditional settlement of Ossa and specifically:

a) Ossa's Folk Collection (2016),

b) Old Grocery (2018) and

c) Old Tsagaradiko (2019).

The "Open Museum of Rural Life of Ossa" is a developing project. The Old Tsagkaradiko is the precursor "The Shomaker 's House", the first and only multimedia showroom for the systematic recording of the shoemaking history in Greece, with main reference to the settlement of Ossa!
