OSSA'S FOLK COLLECTION
The Ossa Folklore Collection was created in August 1992 by a group of young people, in order to save any kind of object related to the history and tradition of their village. Thus, an exhibition emerged, highlighting elements from rural life and everyday life, such as agricultural and livestock tools, photographs, textiles, everyday objects, costumes, shoemaking and shoemaking tools, as well as others representing local folk tradition and art.
The collection of the material is due to the donations of the residents of Ossa who with a lot of love and willingness donated to the collection, but mainly to the enthusiasm, passion and love of the children for their special homeland and the material evidence of its past.
Recently - and after the collection was unfortunately abandoned for several years - on the initiative of the association, with the cooperation of the residents and the Municipality of Lagada, the Folklore Collection of Ossa was reorganized and re-exhibited in 2016 in a hall of the main primary school of Ossa, a beautiful school of 1926, designed by the architect Xenophon Paionidis.
The ultimate goal has always been and is the establishment of an organized "Local Museum of Ossa", in one of the remarkable remaining traditional houses of the village, after first being restored, maintained and properly designed. With the actions of the association, this request focused on the preserved house of Hatzi and Hatzichristakis, a unique example of the newer architectural heritage of Ossa of the 19th century and property of the Municipality of Lagada. The study for the restoration of the building has been prepared for 15 years (...) but, unfortunately, the corresponding program that will be included to give life to the building, which can become the "memory box", has not yet been found. saving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Ossa.
